The University Grants Commission (UGC) has taken major action against fake institutions operating under the guise of higher education across the country. On Monday, the UGC released a list of 22 fake universities and clarified that these institutions are not authorised to grant recognised degrees to any students. The Commission has cautioned students to verify the validity of any college or university before enrolling.

Delhi has the highest number of fake universities.
In the list released by the UGC, the national capital, Delhi, has been found to have the highest number of fake universities. A total of 10 fake universities have been identified in Delhi, which were misleading students. Action has been recommended against these institutions.
Additionally, four fake institutions are located in Uttar Pradesh, two each in Andhra Pradesh and Kerala, and one each in West Bengal, Maharashtra, Puducherry, and Karnataka.
The UGC has stated that such institutions cannot legally issue any degrees, diplomas, or certificates. Students attending these institutions should immediately clarify their institutions’ status.
