Significant repair work is currently taking place on an aging railway bridge over the Ganges River close to Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh. This maintenance will commence on April 2nd and will last for the following 40 days.
With passenger safety as a priority, the Railways has opted to greatly limit train traffic on the bridge during this time. As a result, numerous major trains have either been entirely cancelled or their routes altered. Why are trains being cancelled?
This railway bridge over the Ganges River between Kanpur and Unnao is quite old and needs regular repairs to ensure its durability. During this “mega block,” starting on April 2nd, engineers will conduct a thorough inspection and repair of the bridge’s structure and tracks.
The maintenance work on the Ganga bridge is anticipated to take around 42 days. For security reasons, the schedules of over 40 trains operating on this route have been impacted. To assist passengers, the Railways has decided to short terminate some trains only to intermediate stations. Once the maintenance is completed, both the speed and safety of the trains will be enhanced.
