FASTag Annual Pass: The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has issued an important warning to vehicle owners about ongoing scams related to FASTag annual passes. Recently, there has been a significant increase in scammers defrauding people through fake websites and links. Fraudsters are claiming to sell “one-year annual passes” to people, claiming to be official sellers of the FASTag system. Customers falling prey to these fake platforms are not only facing financial losses of up to Rs 3,000, but their personal information and data are also being stolen.
NHAI has clarified that the only official way to purchase a FASTag annual pass is through the Rajmargyatra mobile app. No other website, social media link, or messaging platform has the authority to issue these passes. Officials have warned that sharing your vehicle registration number, FASTag details, or payment information anywhere other than the Rajmargyatra app could lead to fraud.
How does this scam work?
Fraudsters create fake links that appear genuine. Through these links, they trick users into entering vehicle registration information, Fastag number, and banking information. Even after the payment is deducted, no pass is generated and the data is stolen. NHAI has also warned users on social media platforms not to click on any unknown links.
What is Fastag Annual Pass?
According to the Indian Highway Management Company Limited (IHMCL), this pass is for private cars, jeeps, and vans. Its validity is for one year or 200 toll trips (whichever occurs first). Its purpose is to reduce waiting times at toll plazas and provide convenience to frequent travelers.
NHAI safety tips to avoid scams
NHAI has advised vehicle owners to take the following precautions to avoid fraud: Avail FASTag services only through ‘Rajasthan Yatra’ app, banking app or NPCI’s official website (My FASTag). Do not recharge FASTag or scan QR code through any link received on WhatsApp, SMS or call. This could be a phishing attempt. Always keep an eye on your FASTag balance and transactions. If there is any unauthorized deduction, immediately report it to your bank or NHAI’s toll-free number 1033. Do not share your OTP, FASTag number or vehicle number with any unknown person.
What to do if you become a victim of fraud?
If you believe you have been scammed, take these steps immediately. File a complaint on the Government of India website, cybercrime.gov.in. Notify your bank and block your FASTag account. For safe travel and digital security, it is essential that you purchase FASTag Annual Passes only through the HighwayYatra app. Avoid any unauthorized links or inducements.
