8th Pay Commission: When the new pay commission will be implemented for central employees remains a major question. The central government has constituted the 8th Pay Commission, but the timing of its implementation remains uncertain. It is expected that the government will implement it sometime in 2027. Once implemented, central employees will see a significant salary increase.
More than 10 million employees and pensioners are expected to benefit from this. Once implemented at the centre, state governments will also begin implementing it. The basis for salary increases will be the fitment factor. Salary increases will be based on this coefficient. This is going to prove to be good news for employees.
Salaries will increase due to the fitment factor.
The basis for salary increases in the 8th Pay Commission will be the fitment factor. During the 7th Pay Commission, a fitment factor of 2.57 was established. This increased to ₹7,000, bringing the minimum salary to ₹18,000. Several calculations have now emerged for the 8th Pay Commission.
The fitment factor could be 1.92, 2.08, or 2.86. Sources suggest that a fitment factor of 1.92 would be the most realistic and practical figure. If a fitment factor of 1.92 is applied to employees, their current salary would increase from ₹18,000 to ₹34,560. Level-1 employees could see a salary increase of approximately 92%. All eyes are now on the implementation of its recommendations.
How long will the review take?
The Central Government has constituted a commission, which is expected to complete the review work soon. Sources indicate that the commission may take 17 to 18 months to review the 8th Pay Commission. The commission will submit its review report to the Central Government, which will then be implemented.
It is expected to be implemented in 2027. But its benefits can be availed from January 1, 2026. The 7th Pay Commission completes its ten-year term on December 31, 2025. India has a tradition of implementing a new pay commission every ten years. Employees will receive good news as soon as it is implemented.
