ITR-V Form: The time for filing income tax returns has started. If you’re getting ready to submit your ITR, it’s essential to familiarize yourself with the ITR-V form now, as even a minor error after uploading the form could lead to financial setbacks. According to the regulations set by the Income Tax Department, if you file your return but fail to verify it promptly, it will be considered invalid. This means that legally, your return is not recognized as filed. Hence, grasping the significance of the ITR-V form and ensuring its correct submission is a vital aspect of your tax process.

What is the significance of ITR-V?

The ITR-V form stands for “Income Tax Return Verification.” It is a single-page document that confirms the accuracy of the information you’ve submitted online and indicates your accountability for it. This form is necessary when you e-file your return and cannot verify it electronically right away. The Income Tax Department provides two methods for verification: digital signature and e-verification, which can be accomplished using Aadhaar OTP or net banking. If you opt for either of these digital methods, there’s no need to send any physical copies.

Who is required to send the physical form?

Although many processes are digital nowadays, some individuals still need to submit their ITR-V in a physical format. This includes those without a digital signature or those whose mobile numbers are not linked to Aadhaar, which prevents them from receiving an OTP. Additionally, many senior citizens who are not comfortable with modern technology prefer to hand in their forms. Companies and professionals who must have their businesses audited are required to have a digital signature, so they do not need to submit this physical form.

Is there a strict 30-day rule?

The Income Tax Department has made significant changes to its regulations in recent years. Taxpayers used to have a 120-day period for verification, but this timeframe has now been drastically shortened. Under the current guidelines, you must verify your return within just 30 days of uploading it. If you fail to verify using your Aadhaar OTP or do not send a signed copy of the form to Bengaluru within these 30 days, it could lead to complications..

What is the correct way to send the form?

If you’re unable to verify online, you need to follow a few important steps. First, download your ITR-V form from the Income Tax Department’s portal. This file is password-locked, and you’ll need to use your PAN number and date of birth to open it.

Print it out clearly and sign it inside the box with your blue ink pen. Remember, the department does not accept couriered forms. You must send this form to Bengaluru only via ordinary mail or speed post. The address is ‘Centralized Processing Centre (CPC), Income Tax Department, Bengaluru, Karnataka – 560500’.
