The Indian electric vehicle (EV) market is currently experiencing significant momentum. Vietnam’s leading electric car manufacturer, VinFast, recently created a stir in the Indian auto industry with the launch of its three-row family electric car, the VF MPV 7. But the Vietnamese brand isn’t stopping there.
The company is now preparing to launch two highly affordable vehicles—the VinFast VF 3 hatchback and the VinFast VF 5 subcompact electric SUV—to further strengthen its foothold in the Indian market.
Upon launch in India, the affordable VF 3 will compete with the MG Comet EV and Tata Tiago EV, while its larger sibling, the VinFast VF 5, will face direct and fierce competition from India’s best-selling subcompact electric SUV, the Tata Punch EV.
Battery Options and Range

For Indian customers, driving experience (range) and battery life are paramount when purchasing an electric car. VinFast understands this, so, like in global markets, this sub-compact SUV will be offered in India with two different battery pack options.
The first variant comes with a 29.6kWh lithium-ion battery pack, primarily sold in countries like Vietnam and Indonesia. The front-axle electric motor generates a robust 95bhp of power and 135Nm of torque. This setup easily covers a distance of 268km (NEDC range) on a single full charge.
For long-distance travellers, this SUV also comes with a larger 37.23kWh battery pack. This powerful motor delivers a robust 136bhp of power and 135Nm of torque. With this large battery setup, the VinFast VF 5 boasts a robust range of 326 kilometers on a single charge, perfect for everyday city commutes and weekend trips.
Size and Dimensions
Customers often wonder where this VinFast car compares to the Tata Punch EV in terms of cabin space and size. In terms of dimensions, the VinFast VF 5 measures 3,967 mm in length, 1,723 mm in width, and 1,579 mm in height, while its wheelbase is 2,514 mm.
Comparing this to the Tata Punch EV (which measures 3,880 mm in length, 1,742 mm in width, and 1,622 mm in height), several interesting things emerge. This VinFast car is approximately 87 mm longer than the Tata Punch EV.
More importantly, its wheelbase is 69 mm longer than the Punch EV. The longer wheelbase directly benefits the cabin, providing rear passengers with plenty of legroom. However, it is 19 mm wider and 43 mm taller than the Punch EV.
Boot Space and Ground Clearance

Considering the rough terrain and large speed breakers of Indian roads, this electric SUV has a ground clearance of 169 mm, which keeps the underbody safe on rocky terrain.
The standard boot space for luggage is 260 liters. If you ever need to carry more luggage on a longer trip, this space can be expanded to 900 liters by folding the 60:40 split rear seats (rear seats foldable). Furthermore, the Vietnamese model comes with sporty 17-inch alloy wheels, while the Indonesian model comes with sturdy 16-inch steel wheels.
Interior and Premium Features
Step into the cabin of the global VinFast VF 5, and you’re greeted with a sporty and modern feel. The car features an all-black cabin theme, with silver highlights on the dashboard, infotainment display borders, a three-spoke steering wheel, and AC vents to enhance its premium look.
For entertainment and connectivity, it features an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with the latest smartphone connectivity, and a 7-inch fully digital instrument cluster for the driver. Leatherette seat covers, a powerful 4-speaker sound system, and a keyless entry and go feature for keyless starting add to the cabin’s luxurious and comfortable feel.
To protect against changing weather and pollution, the car is equipped with a PM2.5 air filter, which keeps the air inside the cabin absolutely pure. It also features automatic headlights and front and rear USB ports for mobile charging.
