Vande Bharat Train: The number of Vande Bharat trains in the country is increasing day by day. Vande Bharat trains offer a variety of amenities, from food to other amenities. The Vande Bharat Express is currently the pride of Indian Railways. Most people prefer to travel by the Vande Bharat train. This train operates in every state. Recently, PM Modi flagged off the new Vande Bharat train for Uttar Pradesh. Travelling on it is an experience in itself. If you are also wondering what education is required to become a pilot of this train and what courses are required, let us explain it in detail:
Loco pilots who operate Vande Bharat trains are considered among the most skilled employees of the Indian Railways. They ensure the safety, speed, control, and passenger comfort of the train.
What are the qualifications?
To operate a Vande Bharat train, you must first become a loco pilot for the Indian Railways. Passing the 10th grade is essential. An ITI degree from a recognised institute is also required. Candidates who have completed courses in electrical, mechanical, fitter, or motor mechanic trades at the ITI are preferred.
Candidates are initially appointed as assistant loco pilots. They are then promoted based on experience and performance. These assistants later become senior loco pilots and even pilots of premium trains like the Vande Bharat.
What is the selection process?
The Railway Recruitment Board conducts the Assistant Loco Pilot exam. It consists of three main stages. The written exam includes questions from reasoning, mathematics, science, and general knowledge. Successful candidates are tested for their eyesight, reflexes, and fitness. Selected candidates also undergo intensive training for a few months at the railway’s training institute.
After completing their training, new pilots are assigned to drive freight trains first. This is to ensure that the loco pilots gain a thorough understanding of engine operation and track conditions. After a few years of good performance, passenger trains are introduced, and then the pilots with excellent records get the opportunity to operate trains like Vande Bharat, Tejas, and Rajdhani Express.
