New Delhi: If your ration card hasn’t been made, don’t delay. After a long wait, the government is once again issuing ration cards for the poor. After nearly 12 years, the government has taken this surprising decision. The government has decided that the process of issuing new ration cards will begin soon.
Actually, this decision was taken by the BJP government in Delhi. Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has brought good news for people living in poverty and below the poverty line. The last time a large number of people were added to ration cards was in 2013. Since then, many people have been waiting impatiently. Once their names are added to the ration card, they will begin to benefit from various schemes. People will need to apply for this, and there will be no problem.
How many applications were received in Delhi?
Many people in the capital, Delhi, want to get their ration cards made, and many have already applied. According to government reports, over 2.89 lakh ration card applications are currently pending in Delhi. The Delhi government has determined that no eligible family will be denied food security.
A meeting was held with Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and senior officials from the Food and Civil Supplies Department. The status of the public distribution system in the capital, the number of beneficiaries, the ration distribution system, and pending applications were discussed. It was then decided that the process for issuing new cards would begin soon. Once the process begins, pending applications will be verified and approved.
Learn about the types of ration cards available
In modern times, two types of ration cards are provided to residents of the national capital, Delhi. The first is the Antyodaya Anna Yojana, a nd the second is the Priority Category. Currently, families holding these ration cards are provided free food grains under a central government scheme.
With this, the total number of ration cards in Delhi is currently 17.42 lakh. Through this scheme, ration is being provided to more than 72.50 lakh people. Along with the creation of ration cards, verification will also be conducted to identify eligible families. Furthermore, individuals who are not eligible for ration cards will be removed from the list after verification.
