Railway Alert: Key Services Including Ticket Booking to Remain Closed for 5 Hours

Indian Railways PRS: A big update is here for train travelers. The Passenger Reservation System (PRS Services Downtime) in Delhi will be offline for a few hours on November 22nd. The railway is swapping out the old core switch for a new one, which means several key services will be unavailable from 11:45 pm on November 22nd until 4:45 am on November 23rd.

These services will be impacted

During this time, passengers won’t be able to book tickets, cancel tickets, check current reservations, prepare charts, inquire about PRS status, use internet ticketing, access e-DR, or utilize the PRIMS application. The railways have chosen to carry out these updates during off-peak hours to lessen the inconvenience for travelers.

Why is PRS crucial?

With PRS, passengers can book both reserved and unreserved tickets from anywhere. This system is essential for the railway network, handling data securely and swiftly. It helps avoid long waits for ticket purchases.

As the chill in North India grows stronger, the fog is becoming denser. Heavy fog during late night and early morning is causing significant train delays. In response, the Railways has made a major decision to cancel 24 trains from December 1st to February 28th. This includes trains on several key routes like Patna, Ambala, Prayagraj, Amritsar, Kamakhya, Kolkata, Ajmer, and Howrah. This will impact millions of passengers from Delhi, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Bengal, and Assam.

Routes of 28 trains have also been reduced

Many trains that used to run every day will now only operate 2–4 days a week. On the days these trains do run, they will follow the old schedule. If you’re planning to travel between December and February, make sure to check the list of canceled trains available on the railway website or at the station, so you can avoid the hassle of canceling tickets and getting refunds.
