New Delhi: Under the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Scheme, farmers receive an annual transfer of ₹6,000, disbursed in three instalments of ₹2,000 each. The government’s objective is to economically empower and strengthen farmers. Approximately 120 million (12 crore) farmers are registered under this scheme; however, the benefits are extended only to those who meet the eligibility criteria.
The Central Government recently disbursed the 22nd instalment of ₹2,000, benefiting over 90 million (9 crore) farmers. To avail of the benefits of this scheme, certain essential conditions have been stipulated. Farmers should proceed to avail themselves of the scheme’s benefits only after fully understanding these mandatory requirements. If, for any reason, you are ineligible yet are currently receiving benefits under the scheme, you may face complications. Therefore, it is advisable to first familiarise yourself with the necessary eligibility criteria required to receive the scheme’s benefits.

Who is Considered an Ineligible Beneficiary?
If you wish to receive the three annual instalments of ₹2,000 under the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Scheme, you must first verify your eligibility. It is also important to understand which farmers are deemed ineligible. For instance, if any member of a farmer’s family has paid income tax during the previous financial year, that family is ineligible to receive benefits under this scheme.

Current or former government employees, officials, and individuals holding constitutional posts fall outside the purview of this scheme. Retired employees whose monthly pension exceeds ₹10,000 are also considered ineligible. Furthermore, professionals such as doctors, engineers, lawyers, and Chartered Accountants are not eligible to receive funds under this scheme.
What Action is Taken if Funds Are Not Repaid?
Are you aware that the government is currently issuing recovery notices to farmers who have been identified as ineligible beneficiaries? These notices include directives to return the entire amount received to date. If you are found to have availed of the scheme’s benefits fraudulently or erroneously, you may be disqualified from participating in all future government schemes. Additionally, failure to repay the funds within the stipulated timeframe may result in penalties—including interest charges—and could even lead to the filing of a First Information Report (FIR) against you.
How to Return Funds Received by Mistake?
To return funds received in error, you must first visit the official website of the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Scheme and select the ‘Online Refund’ option. Next, log in by entering your Aadhaar number or mobile number to check how many instalments you need to repay.
Subsequently, you will need to make an online payment through the portal or generate a bank challan to deposit the funds.
Alternatively, you can visit the Agriculture Department or Agriculture Office in your block to repay the amount in cash or via cheque.
