Subsequently, on May 19, petrol went up by 87 paise and diesel by 91 paise; on May 23, 2026, petrol rose by 87 paise and diesel by 91 paise; and on May 25, 2026, petrol was hiked by ₹2.61 and diesel by ₹2.71.

In Delhi, petrol is currently retailing at ₹102.12 per litre. The price stands at ₹113.51 in Kolkata, ₹111.21 in Mumbai, and ₹107.77 in Chennai. According to estimates, the rising cost of crude oil is causing state-run oil companies to incur a daily loss of approximately ₹750 crore on the sale of petrol, diesel, LPG, and jet fuel.

According to state-run oil companies, the price of diesel in Delhi on Wednesday is ₹95.20 per litre. In Kolkata, the price stands at ₹99.02 per litre; in Mumbai, it is ₹97.83; and in Chennai, it is ₹99.55. Crude oil prices have witnessed a significant surge recently; since the outbreak of the conflict involving Iran, prices have risen by approximately 50 percent.
