E-Passport- India is set to launch chip-enabled e-passports this year. This is designed to strengthen security and speed up immigration checks. The new passports will contain biometric details and comply with ICAO standards.

Passport Seva Program 2.0 has been implemented across the country, incorporating advanced and emerging technologies to enhance transparency and expedite operations. Global Passport Seva Program 2.0 is currently undergoing trials and will be gradually rolled out across Indian Embassies and Consulates in phases.

What is e-passport?

An e-passport features a contactless chip, typically embedded in the back or front cover. This chip significantly simplifies airport immigration and travel processes. You can identify an e-passport by the gold chip logo printed on its front cover.

Features of e-passport

1. The e-passport is designed to comply with global regulations (ICAO).

2. The e-passport comes with advanced tech upgrades that make it more secure.

3. A small electronic chip is embedded in its front cover.

4. This chip contains various information about you, such as fingerprints, your photo, and eye scans.

5. It also contains your personal information, such as your name and passport number.

How to apply for e-passport?

– First, visit the official Passport Seva Kendra website.

– Create a new user profile here or login.

– Then, fill out the e-passport application form.

– Now, select your nearest Passport Seva Kendra or Passport Seva Kendra.

– Pay the prescribed application fee online.

– Book an appointment at the selected Seva Kendra.

– Visit the Passport Seva Kendra or Passport Seva Kendra on the scheduled date for biometric capture and document verification.
