Union Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari has made a big announcement. According to a PTI report, Nitin Gadkari has said that a new toll policy is going to be implemented across the country from May 1. This toll policy can be implemented within the next 10 to 15 days. The Union Minister also said that all toll plazas will be removed from across the country in the near future.

New Toll Policy of the Government of India

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari had announced at an event on April 14, 2025 that physical toll plazas will soon be removed from across the country. Along with this, he also announced the launch of a new toll policy across the country. He also said, ‘I will not say anything about this right now. But I can say that the Government of India is going to implement a new toll policy within the next 15 days.’

How to collect toll without toll plazas

According to a PTI report, Nitin Gadkari said that with the implementation of this new system or new policy, toll will be collected automatically through satellite tracking. The Union Minister said that the number plate of the vehicle will be identified through satellite and the toll will be collected automatically. As a result of this new system, there will be no need for manual toll collection.

Road infrastructure will improve

Talking about the country’s infrastructure, Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari said that in the next 2 years, India’s road infrastructure will be better than that of the United States. The Union Minister said about the Mumbai-Goa highway, ‘This highway is going to be completed by June this year. And with the construction of this highway, the distance of travel between two places will be reduced a lot. Even the time will be reduced significantly.’

Statistics show that in the financial year 2023-24, out of the total toll tax of 55 thousand crore, only 8 thousand crore came from private vehicles. Out of 53 percent of toll transactions, 21 percent comes from private vehicles. From 6 am to 10 pm, private vehicles are the most crowded at all toll plazas.

New toll passes to be introduced

The Center (FASTag Rule) is going to introduce annual and lifetime toll passes for hassle-free travel on national highways (Toll Tax). The country’s Road Transport Department has announced that these two types of toll passes will be issued from now on.
