LPG Supply: The government has provided a major update regarding the supply of LPG in the country , which is a relief for the common people. According to the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, approximately 99% of LPG cylinder bookings across the country are now done online. This means that most people are now booking gas from home via mobile or app, making the process much easier and faster than before. Let’s explore the details in detail.
Not only has the booking process improved, but the delivery system has also become more secure and transparent. Currently, over 94.5% of LPG deliveries are carried out using OTP (One Time Password). This indicates that the delivery of cylinders is deemed complete only after the customer provides the OTP, which significantly minimizes the risk of fraudulent deliveries or transactions.
The government has also confirmed that there are no reports of gas shortages (dry-outs) anywhere across the nation. Priority is being given to LPG supplies for household use, ensuring that every home has timely access. Sufficient stocks of petrol and diesel have also been preserved, and all refineries in the country are functioning at full capacity.
The Piped Natural Gas (PNG) sector is experiencing rapid growth as well. Since last month, over 5.36 lakh new PNG connections have been activated, and infrastructure has been established for around 2.61 lakh additional connections. This brings the total to approximately 7.97 lakh. Additionally, about 6 lakh new consumers have registered for PNG, reflecting a gradual transition from LPG to PNG.
Interestingly, more than 42,000 consumers have given up their LPG connections in favor of PNG. This transition is occurring most swiftly in urban areas, where piped gas is viewed as more convenient.
Simultaneously, the government is staying alert in response to the international situation. The Ministry of External Affairs is closely observing the developments in West Asia and is consistently taking measures to ensure the safety of Indian citizens. Thousands of Indians have been safely evacuated thus far.
The digital transformation of the LPG supply and delivery system has enhanced both transparency and convenience. Moreover, the growing adoption of PNG could further bolster the domestic gas system in the future.
