The central government is going to make an important change across the country regarding the LPG or PMUY gas subsidy. From now on, if you want to get any kind of cooking gas subsidy from Indane, Bharat Petroleum, or Hindustan Petroleum, you must follow a new rule.

If you don’t follow this rule, the subsidy amount will not be credited to your account. At first, this rule will be applied to the beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY). Later, it will be extended to all LPG customers in the country.

The aim of this step is to make sure that only eligible people receive the subsidy and to prevent any kind of fraud. In West Bengal, there are about 1 crore 23 lakh Ujjwala Yojana customers who now need to complete this process. Find out below what you need to do.

PM Ujjwala Yojana LPG Subsidy Rules

According to the Petroleum Ministry, the central government has taken this step to stop misuse of the cooking gas subsidy under the PM Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY). At present, Ujjwala customers get a subsidy of ₹300 per cylinder. This benefit is available for a maximum of nine 14.2 kg cylinders in a year.

Under the new rules, Aadhaar verification will be required to get the subsidy for the eighth and ninth cylinders. For customers using 5 kg cylinders, this rule will apply from the 21st cylinder. If your Aadhaar number is not linked or verified with your gas account within the financial year, the subsidy will stop from the eighth cylinder onwards.

Reasons for Not Getting Cooking Gas Subsidy

If Aadhaar biometric verification with your gas account is not done by March 31, you will not get the remaining subsidy for that year. However, gas booking and delivery will continue as usual. Only the subsidy amount will be blocked until the verification is completed.

Even those who have already completed verification will have to repeat the process every year. This will ensure that the right person gets the gas connection and subsidy. Therefore, customers should visit their gas office or complete the process online as soon as possible.

How to Verify Aadhaar with Cooking Gas Account

Customers can visit their gas distributor’s office to get Aadhaar verified. They can also complete the process at home with the help of the cylinder delivery staff. Face authentication can be done through the mobile app of state-owned oil companies.

Special drives will be held in November and December to speed up the verification process. The Petroleum Ministry has already instructed oil companies to ensure smooth implementation so that customers get the benefits easily and avoid long queues.
