LPG Cylinder Crisis: Will LPG gas cylinder prices rise again? Know here

LPG Price: Big news for LPG consumers. The effects of the ongoing war between Iran and Israel are beginning to be felt in India. First, LPG cylinders have become more expensive, and then people in many states across the country are facing difficulties in obtaining them . This ongoing gas crisis has caused sleepless nights for the public. However, the government has dismissed the gas shortage as a rumor.

However, over the past two days, people in many states have been returning home without gas cylinders. Due to black marketing and hoarding, people are unable to obtain cylinders. This is creating a panic situation. This raises the question of whether LPG cylinder prices will rise again in the country.

Demand for gas cylinders has increased in the country

Energy expert Narendra Taneja told that India’s gas imports have dropped significantly due to the Iran-Israel war. Due to the reduced supply, people are facing difficulties in obtaining gas cylinders. He also clarified that the unavailability of gas cylinders is largely due to rumors. Several social media posts claimed that the war would lead to a gas cylinder shortage in the country. These posts have led people to stock up on cylinders in their homes, leading to a sudden increase in demand for gas cylinders.

Will gas cylinders become expensive again?

He then added, “As for the rising price of gas cylinders, I believe the war between the US, Israel, and Iran has entered its 12th day. If this war continues for another 10 days, oil and gas supplies in India will be further affected. This reduced gas supply will impact prices. Consequently, gas cylinder prices may rise again.” The Centre has directed states and union territories to keep a close watch on LPG supplies in their respective jurisdictions and prevent hoarding or black marketing of cylinders.

Home Secretary Govind Mohan chaired an online meeting called after reports of gas cylinder shortages emerged from various parts of the country, officials said. The meeting was attended by chief secretaries of states, officials from the Consumer Affairs Ministry and Director Generals of Police (DGPs). The Home Secretary has directed officials to take steps to prevent any rumours from spreading about the alleged fuel shortage in the country. Amid growing concerns, the government and petroleum companies have assured people that there is no shortage of domestic LPG cylinders. India consumes around 31.3 million tonnes of LPG annually. 87 per cent of this is consumed in the domestic sector, i.e., in household kitchens, and the rest in commercial establishments like hotels and restaurants.

There is no shortage of LPG

At the same time, the Delhi government has clarified that the supply of LPG, petrol, diesel and PNG in the national capital is completely normal and there is no shortage of any kind. The government has appealed to the people not to pay attention to the rumours spreading regarding gas supply and avoid unnecessary panic or hoarding.
