Lost your Aadhaar card and don’t know the number? Download it from home with these steps

Aadhaar Card Update: Today, the Aadhaar card has become the most important identity document for every Indian citizen. Whether it’s to avail of government schemes, for banking transactions, getting a mobile SIM card, or for school and college admissions, Aadhaar is required everywhere. The 12-digit number on the Aadhaar card is valid for a lifetime, but sometimes people misplace their cards, and they get lost.

If your Aadhaar card is also lost and you don’t remember the number, there’s no need to worry. Now you can download your e-Aadhaar card again from home, even without your Aadhaar number.

Process to download your Aadhaar number

If your Aadhaar card is lost and the number is not available, first go to the official UIDAI website. There, go to the My Aadhaar section and select the Retrieve Lost or Forgotten UID/EID option. After this, you will have to fill in your full name, date of birth, and the mobile number or email ID linked to your Aadhaar. After entering the captcha code, submit it.

Now you will receive an OTP on your registered mobile or email. As soon as you enter the OTP, your Aadhaar-related information will appear on the screen. Along with this, UIDAI also sends you the Aadhaar details via SMS or email. This entire process is completely free.

If your mobile number is not linked to Aadhaar

Those whose mobile number is not linked to Aadhaar cannot avail of the online facility. In such a case, you will have to visit your nearest Aadhaar enrollment center. There, you will have to provide the 28-digit enrollment ID number written on the slip you received while getting your Aadhaar made. After this, your biometric verification will be done. Upon successful verification, you will be provided with an e-Aadhaar card. A fee of approximately Rs. 30 is charged for this service.

You can also order a PVC Aadhaar card

UIDAI now also offers the facility of a PVC Aadhaar card. This card is as durable as an ATM or debit card and can be easily kept in a wallet. To get a PVC Aadhaar card, you have to visit the UIDAI website and enter your Aadhaar number. After OTP verification, select the Order Aadhaar PVC Card option. After this, make an online payment of Rs. 50. After the order is completed, UIDAI prints your card and hands it over to the Indian Postal Department within a few days. The card is then sent directly to your home via speed post.
