Indian railways has one of the largest rail network in the world. Millions of passengers travel using rail everyday. Sometimes you have to travel in a short distance, sometimes you have to go for a long tour. For various reasons a train can be late. In this case, people often chose to stay in a hotel. But a hotel room can cost heavy. So there is a solution for you. Indian railways has a solution for this. You can stay for a while only for Rs 100.
IRCTC has made arrangements for passengers waiting for delayed trains at railway stations. These are called Railway Retiring Rooms. You can choose between AC or non-AC rooms depending on your needs. These rooms offer single, double bedroom, and dormitory accommodations.
Railway retiring room facilities are available at all major railway stations in the country. You won’t find this service at smaller stations. You can find out which railway stations have retiring room facilities through the IRCTC website. You’ll need to enter your PNR number.
Who can book a railway retiring room?
To book a railway retiring room, you must have a confirmed or RAC ticket. Waitlisted tickets are not eligible for retirement. Without a valid PNR number and RAC or confirmed tickets, you cannot book a retiring room or dormitory. If you want to book a hotel-like room at a railway station, you’ll need to follow a few steps. Visit the IRCTC Retiring Room website at https://www.rr.irctc.co.in/home. Enter your 10-digit PNR number in the Enter PNR No. field. Then, click the Search button. If a room is available, you’ll need to enter your IRCTC account login password to book. You can also log in as a guest user using your email address and mobile number. After logging in, a new page will open, displaying your train number. Here, you’ll need to fill in details about the station where you want a retiring room.
How to book a railway retiring room?
A new page will open, where you’ll need to select a retiring room or dormitory. Then, click Proceed. Enter details about the number of people staying. Click the Make Payment option. You’ll receive an OTP for payment. Using this, you can make the payment via UPI, debit, credit, or net banking. Once the payment is confirmed, you’ll see a confirmation of your request. Take a printout of this so you can show it in the retiring room.
The rate depends on the type of room you book. It can be charged for 12 to 24 hours, either before or after the train’s departure time. This means you can easily book a room for just 12 hours or for a full day. Typically, booking an overnight room costs anywhere from ₹100 to ₹700, depending on the amenities.
