Indian Railways March Rush 2026: Extra Coaches Added on Delhi, Ajmer, Udaipur & Mumbai Routes

Indian Railways Extra Coach: With the arrival of March, the country begins to experience the festive spirit, wedding celebrations, and holidays. Consequently, railway stations are bound to be overflowing with passengers. In response to this significant rush, Indian Railways has announced a significant addition to passengers in North and West India. The Railways has decided to add additional coaches to 12 major trains operating on busy routes like Delhi, Ajmer, Udaipur, and Mumbai.

Getting a confirmed ticket during the chaos of Holi and the tourist season is a major challenge. According to railway officials, the primary objective of this temporary arrangement is to avoid jostling and ensure a safe journey for passengers. This time, the Railways has increased coaches not just in one class, but across categories ranging from sleeper to luxury AC.

The Railways have included sleeper class, second AC, first-cum-second AC, AC chair car, and general class coaches in this plan. This will not only benefit middle-class families but also provide relief to ordinary people traveling on a budget. Especially on long routes where waiting lists had exceeded 100, there is now a strong possibility of finding seats.

The Railways has identified the busiest rail routes in North-West and North India and increased the number of coaches in the following trains. Two additional sleeper coaches have been added to the Chetak Express (20473/20474) from Delhi Sarai to Udaipur City. This facility will be available from Delhi from March 1 to 31 and from Udaipur from March 2 to April 1. Similarly, trains running between Ajmer and Amritsar (19611/19614 and 19613/19612) have also received an additional sleeper coach.

Sleeper coaches have also been added to the Ajmer-Bandra Terminus Special (09621/09622 and 09653/09654) for passengers traveling to Mumbai and Gujarat. A second AC coach has been added to the Madar-Kolkata Express (19608/19607) for the convenience of long-distance travelers. An additional AC chair car coach has been added to the Ajmer-Delhi Sarai Rohilla Jan Shatabdi (12065/12066) running on the Delhi route.

For general travelers and short-distance travelers, one sleeper coach and four general coaches have been added to the Jodhpur-Indore Express (14801/14802). Two general coaches have been added to the Ajmer-Agra Fort (22987/22988) and one first-cum-second AC coach to the Ajmer-Sealdah Express. Five general coaches have been added to the Madar-Rewari (19617/19618) and one additional sleeper coach to the Ajmer-Solapur Special.

The addition of additional coaches is part of the Railways’ larger strategy, dubbed “March Rush Management.” This year, the Indian Railways is running a record 1,244 special trains across the country. The month of March typically sees a sudden surge of 30% to 40% in passenger traffic due to board exams, annual holidays, and weddings.

Railway officials say they are constantly monitoring the waiting list. If congestion increases further on any route, more coaches may be added with immediate effect. The increase in the number of ordinary coaches will be especially beneficial for those who travel without reservations or make last-minute plans to travel home.

If you already have a waiting list ticket, recheck your PNR status after this new update. It’s possible that your ticket has now become RAC or confirmed due to the addition of the extra coach. Furthermore, the Railways has urged passengers to use only authorized gates and arrive at the station at least one hour before the train’s departure time to avoid crowding. Extra police personnel have also been deployed at stations for security purposes. Passengers can use the NTES app to accurately locate their seats, which provides up-to-date information on coach positions and numbers.
