This is a crucial time for farmers who wish to obtain a solar pump under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Urja Suraksha evam Utthaan Mahabhiyan (PM-KUSUM) scheme. The Agriculture Department has clarified that the online booking process for solar pumps began on November 26th and the portal will remain active until December 15th. Farmers who have not yet applied should register before the deadline, as no applications will be accepted afterwards.

The first mandatory step is to register on the official website of the Agriculture Department, agriculture.up.gov.in. After registration, you can book your solar pump under the subsidy scheme by clicking on the relevant option. A token amount of five thousand rupees must be deposited online during the booking process. The portal also displays the target number of 2 HP and 3 HP pumps for each district, allowing farmers to choose the appropriate option for their area.

Under the scheme, farmers can select the pump capacity based on their needs. A four-inch borewell is mandatory for 2 HP pumps, a six-inch borewell for 3 and 5 HP pumps, and an eight-inch borewell for 7.5 and 10 HP pumps. If the borewell is found unsuitable during verification, the deposited token money will be forfeited, and the application will be automatically cancelled.

The pumps are also suitable for different water levels. A 2 HP surface pump is recommended for water levels up to 22 feet, a 2 HP submersible pump for up to 50 feet, a 3 HP pump for up to 150 feet, a 5 HP pump for up to 200 feet, and 7.5 and 10 HP submersible solar pumps for up to 300 feet.

Under the scheme, a government subsidy of 60 percent of the total cost is available, and the remaining 40 percent must be borne by the farmer. After booking confirmation, the farmer must deposit their remaining share within the stipulated timeframe by generating an online token and depositing the amount at an Indian Bank branch or through online payment. If farmers wish, they can also deposit this portion through a bank loan, which is eligible for a six percent interest subsidy under the Agri Infrastructure Fund. Once the pump is installed, relocation will not be permitted, and if the location is changed, the entire grant will have to be repaid.
