Government Scheme: To increase employment in rural areas and strengthen milk production, the Madhya Pradesh government has launched the Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar Kamdhenu Yojana. This scheme is specifically designed for farmers and livestock owners who want to start a dairy business on a large scale. Under this scheme, the government provides substantial loans through banks and also offers subsidies, reducing the initial financial burden.

How Much Loan is Available?

Under this scheme, eligible applicants can avail a loan ranging from Rs 25 lakh to Rs 42 lakh. This amount is provided for setting up a dairy unit, purchasing animals, constructing sheds, and other necessary arrangements. The government’s focus is on dairy projects that promote milk production on a commercial scale.

Dairy Business Starts with 25 Animals

Under the Kamdhenu Yojana, a dairy unit starts with a minimum of 25 cows or buffaloes. The applicant has to select high-milk-yielding animals to ensure the business is profitable. The scheme is structured in such a way that farmers can gradually develop their unit to its full potential.

Loan Amount Disbursed in Four Instalments

A unique feature of this scheme is that the entire loan amount is not disbursed at once but in instalments. The first instalment of approximately Rs 11 lakh is given to purchase some animals initially. The remaining amount is then released in three separate instalments to purchase the remaining animals. This ensures that the loan is utilized properly and the dairy business progresses systematically.

Subsidy Provides Additional Relief

The government also provides a subsidy along with the loan under this scheme. Applicants from the general category receive a subsidy of up to 25 percent of the total cost. For Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes, this assistance has been increased to 33 percent. The subsidy is given directly to the beneficiary, significantly reducing the pressure of loan repayment. How to Apply

Farmers interested in availing of this scheme can apply by visiting their nearest veterinary officer’s office or the relevant department at the district headquarters. The application must be submitted along with the necessary documents and information related to the project, after which it will be verified by the bank and the department.

Eligibility Requirements

It is important to note that only permanent residents of Madhya Pradesh are eligible for this scheme. The applicant must own at least 3.5 acres of land for animal husbandry. Additionally, the applicant’s bank record must be clean, meaning they should not be a defaulter with any bank.
