Poverty is still a big problem in the country. Many workers think who will help them in old age. Now this worry is over. The government has started a new scheme for workers in the unorganized sector.
The scheme name is Pradhan Mantri Shram Yogi Maandhan Yojana (PM-SYM). In this scheme, workers will get ₹3,000 every month after age 60. This scheme is for small farmers, cart pullers, rickshaw pullers, daily wage workers, and house workers.
The aim of the government is to give workers money support in old age. Here we will see who can join and how to apply.
PM-SYM Scheme and Its Goal
The Central Government started PM-SYM in the 2019 Interim Budget. The goal is to give pension to unorganized workers. These workers have no retirement fund and no fixed income. This scheme gives them money support in old age.
Main Points of the Scheme
Pension: After age 60, workers get ₹3,000 every month.
Govt Help: The government pays the same amount as the worker.
Contribution: Workers pay ₹55 to ₹200 per month (depends on age).
Family Pension: After death, the spouse gets 50% of the pension.
Exit Option: Workers can leave the scheme if they want.
LIC Control: The scheme is run by LIC for safety and trust.
Who Can Join?
Age: 18 to 40 years
Income: ₹15,000 or less per month
Workers: street vendors, ragpickers, rickshaw pullers, daily wage workers, house workers, farm workers, weavers, fishermen, beedi and leather workers, etc.

Why It Matters
Almost 90% of India’s workers are in the unorganized sector. They have no savings or pension. PM-SYM gives them a fixed income in old age. Poor workers and their families get financial safety. Even after death, the spouse gets half pension.
