Free Bus Ride for Women: The government is taking a new step to make public transport more convenient. Until now, women and transgender people had to obtain a pink ticket every time they wanted to travel for free on buses. But this hassle will soon be over. The Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) has decided to introduce a new digital card system based on the National Common Mobility Card (NCMC), which will make ticketless travel possible on buses.
Pink Card to Replace Pink Ticket
Currently, approximately seven lakh pink tickets are issued daily to women and transgender individuals. This results in a significant waste of time and resources. After the implementation of the new card system, the entire process will become digital, and passengers will not need to obtain a ticket every time. Free travel will be possible simply by tapping the card on the bus.

Card Distribution to Begin in February
According to DTC officials, the tender process for manufacturing the NCMC cards has been completed. Private companies will now manufacture the cards and manage their distribution. It is estimated that the card distribution process will begin in February 2026. After that, all eligible women and transgender individuals will gradually start receiving the cards.
Who Will Receive the Free Pink Card?
The DTC has stated that this card will be completely free for women and transgender individuals. However, passengers will have to pay a nominal fee for concessional travel passes or regular travel cards. This new card system will work similarly to the cards used in the Metro and Namo Bharat trains.

Aadhaar Card Mandatory
An Aadhaar card with a Delhi address is mandatory to obtain the pink card. In addition, separate concessional cards will be issued for senior citizens, persons with disabilities, journalists, sportspersons, and other eligible categories. Relevant documents will need to be submitted for these cards. Regular category cards can be obtained by interested passengers by paying the prescribed fee.
No Additional Burden on Passengers
The companies manufacturing and distributing the cards will receive payment and a commission per trip from the government. This will directly benefit the general public, and no additional financial burden will be placed on the passengers.
