Meanwhile The government has issued a warning regarding the FASTag Annual Pass Scam. Cyber criminals are defrauding people in the name of discounts on FASTag Annual Pass. NHAI has recently detected a similar scam. Scammers are targeting FASTag users in the name of discounts. Many people are falling into the trap of scammers in the name of cheap FASTag recharge. Scammers are committing fraud by extracting people’s bank details.
The Home Ministry’s cybersecurity wing, I4C, issued an advisory on this matter through its official X handle, warning people against the FASTag scam masquerading as a discount.
How is the scam happening?
Scammers have misused the names and logos of National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) and IHMCL to create a fake website that looks similar to the official website.
Then, people are shown advertisements on social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and X, with a link to the fake website placed at the top. After clicking on this link, people are asked for their vehicle number, FASTag ID, mobile number, and banking details. They are then asked to make a payment.
Once people pay for a FASTag Annual Pass, the money is transferred to the scammers. Furthermore, they are not issued a valid FASTag Annual Pass. Clicking on such a fake link can expose people to fraudulent banking details and potentially lead to fraud.
