EPFO UAN: The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has changed the rules for creating UANs (Universal Account Numbers). The UMANG app will now be required to create a new UAN number. This rule came into effect on August 1. Additionally, the EPFO has mandated Face Authentication Technology (FAT) through the UMANG app to simplify and secure the UAN generation and activation process.
According to the official circular, the UMANG app will now be required for all new UANs. It states that the UMANG app is being made mandatory to avoid errors and simplify the process. UAN generation will now only be done through FAT in the UMANG app. All employees who wish to generate a new UAN or activate their existing UAN number, as well as those who wish to update their EPFO details, will need the Umang app.
The UMANG app stands for Unified Mobile Application for New-Age Governance. Employees will also need to install the Aadhaar Face RD app on their devices. However, this is not currently required for citizens of Nepal, Bhutan, and foreign origin working in the country. Their UAN numbers will be generated by their employers, as in the initiative.
How to generate new UAN from UMANG app?
First, open the UMANG app on your smartphone. Then, click on the UAN Allotment and Activation option.
Now you will be asked to share the details of your Aadhaar number and linked mobile number.
After sharing all the details, an OTP will be shared on your mobile number.
After verifying the OTP, you will have to do face scan authentication.
If there is no UAN before your name then this system will generate a new number for you and you will receive it on your registered mobile number.
How to activate UAN through Umang App?
Open the UMANG app on your smartphone. Now you need to click on the UAN Activation option.
Now you have to submit UAN, Aadhar number and mobile number and verify OTP.
After OTP verification, you have to complete the biometric authentication process with the help of Aadhaar Face RD app.
Once the verification is complete, you will receive a temporary password on your registered mobile number and your UAN will be activated.
