Important news for travellers traveling on the Dwarka Expressway, connecting Delhi and Gurugram. You will now have to pay toll tax on this state-of-the-art expressway. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has released new toll rates for the Dwarka Expressway, and toll collection began at 8 a.m. on Sunday.

The increased rates have also been implemented with immediate effect at the Kherki Daula toll plaza in Gurgaon. While residents living within a 20-kilometer radius have been given significant relief in the form of monthly passes, the unprecedented 19 percent increase in toll rates has sparked widespread protests and anger among residents.

Controversy at the Toll Plaza

With the implementation of tolls on the Dwarka Expressway, new toll rates have also been implemented at the Kherki Daula toll plaza in Gurgaon. This decision comes after drivers traveling to the airport from Delhi and Gurgaon via NH-48 will no longer have to pay tolls due to the closure of the toll plaza near the airport.

Protests and Industrial Concerns

Residents say they have been assured of toll removal for the past six years, but the 19 percent increase in rates is unfair to the general public, leading them to launch protests. Deepak Maini, Chairman of the Progressive Federation of Trade and Industry, strongly urged the government to immediately withdraw the increased rates, as road facilities are not improving significantly while toll fees continue to rise.

He stated that this will place a greater financial burden on the industrial sector, and the government should make decisions keeping the interests of entrepreneurs in mind. NHAI maintains that implementing the toll system will strengthen road maintenance and traffic management.

New Rates at Kherki Daula Toll Plaza

To facilitate long-distance travel on the Dwarka Expressway, separate toll plazas have been established on different sections of the expressway. Officials say toll rates are determined based on distance, and the FASTag payment system has been made mandatory for travellers’ convenience.

For cars, jeeps, vans, and light motor vehicles, the Kherki Daula toll plaza charges ₹95 for a single trip, ₹145 for a double trip, and ₹3,240 for a monthly pass (for 50 trips). Light commercial and light goods vehicles will be charged ₹155 for a single trip, ₹235 for a double trip, and ₹5,230 for a monthly pass. For buses or trucks (two axles), the toll will be ₹330 for a single trip, ₹495 for a double trip, and ₹10,960 for a monthly fee.

Commercial vehicles with three axles will be charged ₹360 for a single trip, ₹540 for a double trip, and ₹11,955 for a monthly fee.
