Almost all financial transactions require a PAN card, and without one, many important tasks can be hampered. For this reason, the government has made it mandatory to link Aadhaar and PAN. Fortunately, there will be no fee for linking Aadhaar and PAN before December 31st. However, many people are wondering what difficulties they might face if they don’t link their PAN with Aadhaar by the deadline.

Losses if Aadhaar-PAN is not linked

According to information, failing to link Aadhaar and PAN by the deadline can lead to several problems. Income tax refunds may be delayed or delayed. Filing income tax returns in the future may also lead to difficulties. TDS and TCS may be deducted at higher rates than usual.

Additionally, there may be problems opening a bank account and obtaining a debit or credit card. Deposits exceeding ₹50,000 in a single day at a bank or post office may be restricted. Depositing cash exceeding ₹2.5 lakh in a single financial year may also be difficult. Transactions exceeding ₹10,000 may also be difficult.

Who is required to link Aadhaar and PAN?

If your Aadhaar card was issued before October 1, 2024, and you are subject to income tax, it is mandatory to link your Aadhaar and PAN.

Who is not subject to this rule?

It should be noted that those who do not file income tax returns are not required to link their Aadhaar and PAN. Furthermore, those residing in Jammu and Kashmir, Assam, and Meghalaya, senior citizens over 80 years of age, and individuals who are not Indian citizens are exempt from this rule.

How to Link Aadhaar and PAN Online

You can easily link your PAN with Aadhaar through the Income Tax e-filing website. To do this, first go to the e-filing portal and click on the “Link Aadhaar” option. Enter your Aadhaar number and PAN number. Then, enter your registered mobile number and agree to verify your Aadhaar details with UIDAI. Once the process is complete, a message stating that your PAN has been successfully linked will appear on your screen.

Link via SMS

If you don’t want to use the online method, you can also link your Aadhaar and PAN via SMS. Simply type “UIDPAN” from your registered mobile number, followed by your 12-digit Aadhaar number and 10-digit PAN number. Send this message to either 567678 or 56161. For example, if your Aadhaar number is 987654321012 and PAN number is ABCDE1234F, then you have to write UIDPAN 987654321012 ABCDE1234F and send it to the given number.
