You simply purchase a general ticket and set off. For long journeys, you book a ticket to avoid any hassles. When you book a ticket, you are given a 10-digit number written on the ticket. This number is called PNR. It contains the passenger’s name, address, age, and travel time. Using this number, you can check the status of your ticket booking.

How to Check PNR Number
First, visit the official railway website.
As soon as the website opens, you will see the PNR text.
Next, click on the PNR option.
After clicking the option, a box will appear.
In this, you need to enter the number written on your ticket.
Now, you need to enter a captcha code written below the box.
After entering the captcha code, click on the submit button.
After submitting, all the information regarding your ticket booking status will be displayed on your mobile.

How does the PNR number work?
If you are a railway passenger and book a ticket through IRCTC or a private travel website, the Central Railway Information System (CRIA) gives the passenger a 10-digit PNR number, which is the PNR number.
