The LIC Bima Sakhi scheme is for women who aspire to work but are held back due to a lack of resources or opportunities. Under this scheme, women become LIC agents, receive training, and work on the ground. This not only provides them with employment but also helps provide insurance benefits to others, providing a protective shield to society.
The Bima Sakhi scheme was launched on December 9, 2024, and has received a strong response. According to Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary, more than 2 lakh women have joined the scheme so far, earning approximately ₹7,000 per month. In the financial year 2024-25, ₹62.36 crore was paid to Bima Sakhis, while LIC has budgeted ₹520 crore for 2025-26. This clearly demonstrates the government’s deep commitment to expanding the scheme.
