Is electricity theft a common problem in your neighborhood, and are you afraid to complain. Electricity theft had become so rampant in Madhya Pradesh that it was impossible to completely curb it using traditional methods. The Electricity Department realized, unprecedentedly, that this problem could not be completely eradicated without public participation. With this revolutionary thinking, a unique app called “V-Mitra” was developed. This app not only serves as a powerful tool to curb electricity theft but also offers attractive rewards to citizens who provide accurate information.
Public Participation in Preventing Electricity Theft

The Electricity Department launched the V-Mitra app to encourage public participation in curbing electricity theft in Madhya Pradesh. The unique feature of the V-Mitra app is that anyone can file a complaint while maintaining complete confidentiality.
All you need to do is open the app, select a location, and provide information about where the electricity theft is occurring. Complainants are not tracked, allowing people to submit accurate information without any fear. This app isn’t just limited to detecting theft. It also allows the electricity department to focus on areas where irregularities often go unnoticed, such as incorrect geo-tagging, line load mismatches, and transformer link problems.

Simple Complaint Filing Process
The complaint-filing process is also extremely simple. Users can add evidence such as photos and location. This helps the investigating team clearly understand the situation on the spot.
Once a complaint is filed, the company team begins an investigation. Upon receiving accurate information, immediate action is taken, and outstanding dues are recovered quickly. The transparency and confidentiality of the process have instilled confidence in the public.

Great Reward Feature for Correct Complaints
Complainants are also rewarded for filing complaints through this app. A fixed amount is awarded for each correct complaint. If a fault is found in the line, connection, or load, the reward amount ranges from ₹10 to ₹25 per kilowatt. This reward scheme provides a powerful incentive for citizens to maintain honesty and transparency in the power system.
