How to Apply Passport: The process of obtaining a passport in India has become much simpler than before. A passport is mandatory for travelling abroad, studying, working, or travelling outside the country for any other purpose. While obtaining a passport previously required long queues, numerous forms, and complex paperwork, now, with the help of a digital portal, the entire process can be completed from the comfort of your home. This process can sometimes seem daunting for new users, so it’s important to understand each step of the passport application so you can complete it without any hassle.
Starting an Online Passport Application
The first step is to register on the Passport Seva Portal. Visit the Passport Seva website, enter your personal information, and create a login ID and password. This account will serve as your identity for all subsequent steps.

Process of Filling the Online Form
After completing registration, you must fill out the online passport application form. Here, you must enter your full name, date of birth, address, family information, and travel details. Ensure that all information provided is correct, as this is the basis for document verification later.
Uploading Required Documents
After submitting the form, you must upload identity documents. These typically include Aadhaar card, PAN card, voter ID card, birth certificate, and proof of address. The documents should be clear and legible to ensure their authenticity is easily verified.
Selecting an Appointment Slot
After uploading the documents, you must book an appointment at the Passport Seva Kendra. You can choose a suitable time based on your city and available slots. This step is mandatory because your biometric and document verification takes place at the passport office.
Paying Passport Fees Online
Once the appointment is finalised, the prescribed fee is paid online. This payment is possible through debit card, credit card, or net banking. Once the payment is complete, your application is officially registered.
Visit the Passport Seva Kendra
On the day of your appointment, visit the Passport Seva Kendra with all your original documents. There, officials will check your documents, take your biometric identification, and take a photo. This entire process is completed within one to two hours.

Passport Delivery
Once the police verification is complete, the passport is printed and sent to your address. You can also track the status of your passport online. Under normal circumstances, the entire process can take anywhere from a few days to a few weeks.
List of Required Documents
Several essential documents are mandatory for a passport application. These include an identity card, proof of address, birth certificate, and a passport-sized photo. All these documents must be up-to-date and clear before applying.
