Toyota Rumion Base Variant: If you’re looking for a reliable and affordable 7-seater vehicle for your large family, Toyota India has made a significant impact. The company has officially launched a new entry-level ‘E’ trim of its popular Toyota Rumion, priced at just ₹9.56 lakh (ex-showroom). This is aimed squarely at customers who want a premium vehicle with Toyota’s brand value and long life, while remaining budget-conscious. In an era of rising vehicle prices, this new Toyota offering poses a strong challenge to vehicles like the Maruti Ertiga and Kia Carens.
Toyota Rumion Variant Features

Toyota has made every effort to make this new ‘E’ variant of the Rumion budget-friendly while also providing essential modern features. From the outside, it features a large chrome-surround front grille, projector halogen headlamps, and stylish LED taillamps. It features 15-inch sturdy steel wheels with silver wheel caps, giving it a premium look.
In terms of safety and convenience, even this base variant offers key features like six airbags, hill hold assist, four power windows, and rear parking sensors. However, to keep the price low, the company has made some minor cuts. This variant lacks features like an in-built audio system, manually adjustable IRVM, rear AC vents, and ABS with EBD, which come standard on the ‘S’ variant above it.
Engine and Performance
The Toyota Rumion is powered by the same reliable 1.5-liter naturally aspirated petrol engine, known worldwide for its smoothness and excellent refinement. This powerful engine produces a maximum power of 103 bhp and a peak torque of 137 Nm. The new ‘E’ trim only offers a 5-speed manual gearbox option, while the higher variants like G and V also offer a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission.

For those looking to save significant fuel, the Rumion’s CNG variant proves to be a masterstroke. In CNG mode, this engine generates 88 bhp and 121.5 Nm of torque. In terms of mileage, Toyota claims that the petrol variant delivers an impressive 20.51 km/L and the CNG variant 26.11 km/kg.
Pricing and Market Competition
Pricing for the different variants of the Toyota Rumion: The new ‘E’ model is priced at ₹9.56 lakh, while the ‘S’ manual is priced at ₹10.51 lakh and the ‘S’ CNG is priced at ₹11.40 lakh. Its higher manual variants like G and V are priced between ₹11.64 lakh and ₹12.39 lakh. Its automatic variants range from ₹12.05 lakh and go up to ₹13.86 lakh.
In the Indian market, Toyota Rumion directly competes with its sister car Maruti Suzuki Ertiga. Apart from this, it is also giving tough competition to the recently launched Nissan Gravit, Renault Triber and premium segment Kia Carens. With a starting price of just ₹9.56 lakh, Rumion is now going to be the first choice of families who are looking for a safe and spacious 7-seater car.
