Aadhaar Card New Rule: A new rule related to Aadhaar card is coming. The government will soon introduce a rule in which hotels, event organizers and similar places will have to completely stop taking and keeping physical photocopies of Aadhaar cards. A senior official told that this change is being made because keeping a copy of Aadhaar on paper poses a risk to privacy and is also against the Aadhaar Act. UIDAI has approved the new rule and it will be notified soon. Under the new rule, any organization that wants to do offline Aadhaar verification will have to register with UIDAI and do the verification only through digital means.

What is the detail?

UIDAI chief Bhuvnesh Kumar stated that all institutions will now be required to use QR codes and app-based verification through a secure API (Application Programming Interface). This means that providing physical Aadhaar copies at hotels, event venues, and other locations will no longer be necessary. This move is intended to discourage paper-based verification and reduce the potential for misuse of Aadhaar data.

UIDAI new app

UIDAI is also beta-testing a new app that will allow app-to-app verification. This app’s unique feature is that it doesn’t require a live connection to a central server. This will allow Aadhaar verification to be done easily at locations like airports, retail outlets, and event venues without network issues. The app will also allow users to update their addresses and add family members who don’t have mobile phones.

Features of the new system

A key feature of the new system is that it will prevent problems like server downtime. Currently, Aadhaar verification often stalls due to technical glitches in the intermediary server lines, but QR and app-based offline verification will eliminate this problem. UIDAI says this model will further strengthen user privacy and eliminate the risk of paper copy leakage. This entire system is also compliant with the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, which is expected to be fully implemented within the next 18 months.
