Aadhaar Card – Big news for Aadhaar Card holders. Aadhaar card has become essential for every citizen. From obtaining a gas connection, ration card, mobile SIM, banking services, and even availing government schemes, it’s mandatory everywhere. Therefore, keeping information like name, address, and biometrics correct and updated is crucial for everyone. However, this process has become more expensive for ordinary people.

New rates for Aadhaar corrections will come into effect on October 1st. For general corrections to your Aadhaar card, you’ll now have to pay Rs 75 instead of Rs 50. Biometric updates, such as fingerprints, iris, or photo changes, previously cost Rs 100, but now cost Rs 125.

No money to get a new Aadhaar card

Biometric updates for children between the ages of seven and 17, which previously cost Re 100, will now cost Rs 125. However, there will still be no fee for a new Aadhaar card. According to information, when Aadhaar was first introduced, a fee of only Rs 15 was charged for a general correction and Rs 30 for a biometric update. Subsequently, the UIDAI revised the fees, making the fee Rs 30 for a general correction and Rs 50 for a biometric update.

Subsequent changes were made, bringing the fee for a general correction to Rs 50 and for a biometric update to Rs 100. Now, the fee has been increased by another Rs 25 to Rs 75 and Rs 125, respectively.

Expenses will increase

The continued increase in Aadhaar card correction fees will directly impact the general public. For those living in rural areas and small towns with limited incomes, and those who need to correct documents, this could prove to be an additional burden.

Those who haven’t updated their Aadhaar in the last ten years will now have to resubmit their documents, and after October 1st, they will have to pay ₹75 for this, up from ₹50 previously. Meanwhile, former Congress district president Sanjeev Kumar Singh has called this a wrong government policy.

Aftab Alam, District Coordinator says ‘The software hasn’t been updated yet, but the UIDAI has issued a notification. Until the software for all systems is updated, the old fees will still be charged.’
