e-NAM Update: The Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Government of India, has expanded the scope of the National Agriculture Market (e-NAM) platform by adding nine new agricultural commodities. With this, a total of 247 agricultural products can now be traded through e-NAM. This decision was taken to provide better prices to farmers and promote a transparent trading environment.

Farmers Will Get Better Prices

The National Agriculture Market (e-NAM) is a unified digital trading platform that integrates mandi markets across the country. Through this initiative, farmers receive competitive and transparent prices for their produce. By adding nine new commodities, the government has taken another concrete step towards increasing farmers’ income.

The newly added commodities include green tea, tea, dried ashwagandha roots, mustard oil, lavender oil, mentha oil, pure olive oil, dried lavender flowers, and broken rice. The Directorate of Marketing and Inspection (DMI) has developed tradable standards for these commodities, ensuring farmers receive prices commensurate with the actual quality of their produce.

Quality Guaranteed

The government has ensured that standardized grades and quality standards are applied to all commodities traded on the e-NAM platform. This will ensure farmers’ produce is priced according to its quality, reducing the role of middlemen and directly benefiting farmers.

The e-NAM platform is becoming a reliable, transparent, and digitally operated bridge between farmers and traders. This initiative is crucial for promoting the use of technology in the agricultural sector and strengthening the rural economy.

Farmers’ Income Will Increase

Previously, 238 agricultural commodities were traded on e-NAM, but with the addition of nine new commodities, this number has reached 247. This platform allows farmers to go beyond local markets and connect with national buyers, enabling them to receive better prices for their produce.

Future Benefits

The e-NAM portal (enam.gov.in) has now become a comprehensive digital platform for farmers. The government aims to include more commodities in the future to ensure every farmer in India receives fair prices and access to a wider market for their produce. This move will be a strong step towards modernizing and making India’s agricultural economy self-reliant.
