70 Years of Glory
Since its founding in 1955, Yamaha has ruled the hearts of bike enthusiasts worldwide. To mark 70 years of this long and glorious journey, the company has decided to introduce four of its sportbike models in a special 70th Anniversary Edition livery. All of these bikes will be available in select international markets in 2026. Of these four bikes, the Yamaha R3 is the most relevant for Indian bike enthusiasts, as it is already on sale in India. This edition enhances the bike’s aesthetics without significantly altering its power or performance.

Design
The 70th Anniversary Edition looks like a celebrity wearing a distinctive and vibrant look for their celebration. The bike is adorned in a striking red and white paint scheme, which is prominently displayed on the fairing, fuel tank, and tail section. The most striking aspect of this design is the red 3D graphics on the side panels. These graphics are slightly raised above the surface, giving the bike a unique depth and dimension, as if a piece of art has come to life on the streets. Furthermore, black elements are also added to the lower portion of the front fascia and side fairing, further accentuating its sporty character. The ‘R3’ and Yamaha logos are also prominently displayed on the bike, adorning the headlamp and fuel tank, respectively. Apart from this special livery, the bike is identical to the standard R3 in every other respect.
Performance and Features
The question now arises: does the heart beat the same way beneath this celebratory garb? The answer is yes. This special edition Yamaha R3 features the same reliable and powerful 321cc parallel-twin, liquid-cooled engine. This engine produces 40.4 bhp and 29.4 Nm of torque, making it ideal for both city and highway rides. Not only does this engine run smoothly, but its sound and performance exude a unique passion. Hardware-wise, the bike is based on a diamond-type chassis, equipped with 17-inch alloy wheels. Suspension duties are handled by non-adjustable upside-down forks in the front and a monoshock in the rear. Braking is handled by single disc brakes at both ends, equipped with ABS. Best of all, the latest model also features a modern TFT screen and an assist and slipper clutch, making riding even more comfortable and safe during long rides.

Specialties
Now let’s get to the biggest question on every Indian bike enthusiast’s mind: will this special 70th Anniversary Edition R3 make its way to our country? The answer to this question may be a bit disappointing. Reports suggest that this bike’s arrival in India is highly unlikely. The biggest reason for this is its price. The Yamaha R3 is already sold in India as a premium sportbike, with an ex-showroom price of around ₹3.39 lakh. When the bike was first launched, it received a lukewarm response in the market due to its high price. Therefore, introducing a limited edition, which could cost even more, would not be a marketing strategy for the company. Unfortunately, this celebratory beauty is unlikely to be seen on Indian roads.
