Volkswagen Tayron R-Line vs Tiguan R-Line – Which is the real flagship SUV in size, power and space

Volkswagen has once again registered its strong presence in the premium SUV segment. As soon as the new Volkswagen Tayron R-Line was unleashed in India, it was clear that the company had now come to play big bets, not just 5-seater, but also in a full-family, 7-seater premium SUV game.

The Tayron R-Line is positioned above the Tiguan R-Line and can be considered a large, three-row variant of the same. But the question is how far Tayron goes in terms of size and power, and for whom the Tiguan R-Line is still a more sensible option.

Volkswagen Tayron R-Line

The company has re-entered premium 7-seater SUV space in India with Volkswagen Tayron R-Line. This SUV sits on top of the Tiguan R-Line and has emerged as the brand new flagship SUV. The German signature in design and engineering looks clean, but Tayron’s real focus is on more space, more road presence and family-oriented luxury.

While the Tiguan R-Line plays the sporty and urban SUV, the Tayron R-Line is designed keeping in mind long journeys and large families. The relationship between the two is such as DNA of younger and older brother.

Dimensions

If at first sight the Tayron R-Line seems too big and wide, it is due to its figures. The length of the Tayron R-Line is 4,792 mm, which is 253 mm longer than the Volkswagen Tiguan R-Line. This difference feels clean not just on paper, but also on the road.

Tayron is 7 mm wide in width, while it also gets a gain of 9 mm in height. The real game-changer is its wheelbase. The 2,789 mm wheelbase of the Tayron is 109 mm longer than the Tiguan, which directly improves cabin space and utility of the Third Row.

Talking about boot space, the Tayron R-Line proves to be more practical even after using all three roe. Where Tiguan’s boot space is definitely large, Tayron offers 307 liters more space with three roe, which makes a big difference in family trips.

Powertrain

Interestingly, both the Tayron R-Line and Tiguan R-Line have exactly the same powertrain. Both SUVs feature a 2.0-liter TSI turbo-petrol engine, generating 201 bhp power and 320 Nm of torque. This is accompanied by a 7-speed DCT automatic gearbox and AWD system.

Both have the same performance. But the difference in driving feel comes due to size and weight. The Tiguan R-Line looks more agile and sporty, while the Tayron R-Line gives a smooth, stable and long-distance cruiser feel.
