Mahindra XUV400 vs Tata Nexon EV – Which electric SUV is Better in Range, Power and Features

Electric SUV segment is now really hot. Rising petrol-diesel prices and improving EV technology have changed people’s stance rapidly. Two big names in the same segment are constantly under discussion Mahindra XUV400 and Tata Nexon EV. Both are electric SUVs of Indian companies and both attract customers differently.

Design and road presence

Mahindra XUV400 looks a bit like a traditional SUV. Its size is larger than Nexon EV, making the road presence look stronger. The long body stance and solid design give it a mature look.

At the same time, the design of the Tata Nexon EV seems more modern and futuristic, especially in facelift models. Sharp LED lights, connected taillamps and slick front profiles give it a more premium feel.

If you want a large and solid looking SUV, the XUV400 will look attractive. But if style and trendy design is a priority, then Nexon EV may be more liked.

Battery and range

Mahindra XUV400 comes with two battery options around 34.5kWh and 39.4kWh. The variant with a large battery boasts a range of about 456km (ARAI).

Tata Nexon EV is also available with separate battery packs of about 30kWh and 40.5kWh. Its long range variants go up to about 465km (ARAI).

The range of both on paper is quite close. Driving in the real world makes a difference according to style, traffic and weather. But in terms of long distance both are almost on par.

Power and Driving Experience

Mahindra XUV400’s motor is considered more powerful. It gives power up to about 150hp and 310Nm torque. Acceleration is fast, and a speed of 0–100 km / h also catches up quickly.

Tata Nexon EV gives around 143hp power and 215Nm torque. This is more than enough for driving in the city and gives a smooth feel.

The XUV400 takes a light edge if it needs a fast pickup and a slightly sporty feel. But Nexon EV also seems balanced and comfortable in everyday use.

Interior and Features

The cabin of the Tata Nexon EV gives a more modern and premium feel. Features such as large touchscreen, digital instrument cluster, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, 360-degree camera and ADAS make it take-friendly.

Mahindra XUV400 also offers large touchscreens, digital displays and connected car technology. But in the case of feature lists, Nexon EV seems a bit ahead, especially due to advanced safety technology.

Price

The price of both SUVs starts at around 15 lakhs to Rs 19 lakh (ex-showroom), according to the variants. Experience in Tata Nexon EV’s service network and EV segment make it a reliable option.

Mahindra XUV400 also offers more power and larger size at a competitive price. If performance is a priority, the XUV400 may seem a better value. But the features and EV experience of the brand make Nexon EV look heavy.
