Mahindra XEV 9S vs XEV 9e: Demand for electric SUVs in India is steadily increasing, and at this pace Mahindra has launched its new XEV 9S. This SUV is the company’s third offering of the Born Electric Series and the price starts at ₹19.95 lakhs (ex-showroom). Many are also calling the new XEV 9S the electric avatar of the XUV700, as it has become India’s first all-electric three-row seven-seater SUV.
On the other hand the XEV 9e is a more sporty and coupe-style electric SUV, introduced by Mahindra earlier. Both SUVs come from the same family, but there are many differences between them. So let’s understand these differentences in easy language and know which SUV can prove to be better for you.

Price
The price separates these two SUVs from each other. The initial price of the XEV 9S is about ₹1.95 million less than the XEV 9e. This makes this SUV a practical option for those who want to keep the larger family or budget slightly lower.
Interestingly, XEV 9S is almost ₹1 lakh cheaper even in top-end version. This clearly shows that Mahindra designed the XEV 9S with a focus on value-for-money, while the XEV 9e is positioned like a sporty premium electric SUV.
Design
Now let’s talk about the design of both SUVs. The XEV 9e is a coupe-style SUV, which has a sliding roofline when viewed from the side, making it look extremely sporty and futuristic. In comparison, the XEV 9S comes with a traditional SUV look, whose design is very similar to the XUV700. It is seen more family-friendly due to upright stance and practical portions.
The large alloy wheels given in the XEV 9S give it a strong and heavy-duty look, while the XEV 9e runs on slightly smaller 18-inch wheels. Backwards, the XEV 9S includes rear wiper and washer, which are not found in the XEV 9e. There is also a big change in tail light design. The XEV 9e gets connected LED strip with inverted U shape, while the XEV 9S has split LED lights, which look like the XUV700.
Interior and Space
In terms of the interior, both SUVs look remotely similar, especially the driver console and dashboard layout, but their real difference is hidden in the practicality of the cabin. The XEV 9S gets three rows, ie a total of seven seats. Compared to this, the XEV 9e is a two-row, five-seater SUV.
The XEV 9S gets second row seats sliding and ventilated, as well as powered boss mode, which gives extra comfort to rear passengers. Its panoramic sunroof is also fully retractable, making the cabin look more airy. On the other hand, XEV 9e sporty segment is designed keeping in mind, so it values design and driving feel rather than practicality.
Battery and Powertrain
In the case of Powertrain, the XEV 9S gives buyers more options. While both SUVs receive 59 kWh and 79 kWh battery packs, a third 70 kWh battery pack is also available in the XEV 9S. This special battery is found in the Pack Two Above trim and is capable of delivering 241 bhp power and 380 Nm torque.

Because of this the XEV 9S proves to be better for those who want perfect balance of range, power and practicality. The XEV 9e, being a coupe SUV, places more emphasis on sporty driving experience and therefore its powertrain combinations are slightly limited.
