What Farmers Expect from the Scheme
The biggest expectation of farmers from the Budget 2026 is regarding the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana (PM Kisan scheme). Farmers have been demanding an increase in the annual assistance provided under this scheme for a long time. Currently, the government provides Rs 6000 in financial assistance to farmers every year, which is considered insufficient.
How the PM Kisan Amount is Disbursed
Under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana, eligible farmers receive an annual assistance of Rs 6000. This amount is transferred directly to the farmers’ bank accounts in three equal installments. One installment of Rs 2000 is released every four months, providing farmers with some help in meeting their farming expenses.
Rising Cost of Farming a Major Challenge
Agricultural experts and farmer organizations believe that the current annual assistance of Rs 6000 is not sufficient. In the past few years, the prices of seeds, fertilizers, pesticides, diesel, electricity, irrigation, and agricultural equipment have increased sharply. In these circumstances, the financial pressure on farmers is constantly increasing.

Speculation of the Amount Increasing to Rs 8000
For these reasons, it is being speculated that the government may increase the amount under the PM Kisan scheme to Rs 8000 in the Budget 2026. If this happens, it could prove to be a great relief for farmers and help them manage their farming expenses.
Scheme launched in 2018
The Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana was launched in 2018. Its objective is to empower small and marginal farmers financially. So far, 21 installments of this scheme have been released, and crores of farmers across the country are now waiting for the 22nd installment.
