Under the PM-KISAN scheme, mere registration or e-KYC will no longer be sufficient; a Farmer ID has also been made mandatory. The government states that this change aims to prevent fake beneficiaries and ensure that genuine farmers receive the benefits of the scheme.

PM-KISAN benefits will not be available without a Farmer ID

The Central Government has clarified that farmers who do not have a unique Farmer ID will not receive the 22nd installment of the PM-KISAN scheme. Even if a farmer has completed the e-KYC process, the installment may be delayed if they do not have a Farmer ID. Therefore, all beneficiary farmers have been advised to obtain their Farmer ID as soon as possible.

The government believes that the implementation of Farmer ID will make farmer identity and land records more transparent, ensuring that the benefits of the schemes reach the right people.

What is a Farmer ID and why is it important?

Farmer ID is like a digital identity card linked to the farmer’s Aadhaar number. It is linked to the land records systems of state governments, ensuring all information related to the farmer’s land is stored in it. Any changes to land records are automatically reflected in the updated Farmer ID.

The biggest advantage of this unique identification is that farmers don’t need to submit documents repeatedly to avail the benefits of various government schemes. Furthermore, access to services like markets, banks, and insurance becomes easier.

Objective and Launch of the PM-KISAN Scheme

The Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana is considered one of the world’s largest direct benefit transfer schemes. Launched on February 24, 2019, it aims to provide financial assistance to all eligible landholding farmers and their families in the country so they can easily meet farming expenses.

Under this scheme, the government transfers the assistance amount directly to farmers’ bank accounts, eliminating the role of middlemen.

How to get Rs. 6,000 every year

Under the PM-KISAN scheme, eligible farmers receive a total financial assistance of Rs. 6,000 every year. This amount is provided in three equal installments. Every four months, Rs. 2,000 is transferred to farmers’ accounts.

So far, the central government has released 21 installments under this scheme. The 21st installment was released by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on November 19, 2025, from Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu.

When will the 22nd installment be released?

According to government reports and media sources, the 22nd installment of the PM-KISAN scheme is expected to be released between February and March 2026. However, the government has not yet announced an official date.

Farmers are advised to periodically update their information by visiting the official PM-KISAN website and mobile app to avoid any problems.

e-KYC remains a mandatory requirement

Along with Farmer ID, the e-KYC process remains mandatory for the PM-KISAN scheme. The Agriculture Department has clarified that farmers whose e-KYC is incomplete may face a withholding of their installments.

Farmers can complete their e-KYC biometrically through the PM-KISAN official website, mobile app, or by visiting the nearest CSC center. Completing this process on time is in the farmers’ best interest.
