EPFO Life Certificate : The Employees’ Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) and India Post Payments Bank (IPPB) have launched a free doorstep digital life certificate (DLC) service for EPS pensioners. Senior pensioners no longer need a bank, EPFO office, or smartphone; instead, a postman will come to their home and register the DLC using biometrics. This facility is completely free.
What is the purpose of this service of EPFO?
The EPFO launched this facility under a circular issued on January 9, 2025. It aims to help senior citizens and pensioners who struggle with smartphone use or travel. A postman or postal servant will visit homes and create a DLC using face authentication (FAT) or other biometric methods. The EPFO will bear all costs for a successful DLC, meaning no fees will be charged to the pensioner.
What is a digital life certificate?
This is an Aadhaar-based biometric certificate that confirms the pensioner’s survival. EPS pensioners can submit it at any time of the year, and it is valid for one year from the date of submission.
How does this service work?
Pensioners first submit a request through the IPPB channel. An IPPB official will then verify whether the DLC is due or will be due within 30 days, and whether the name/DOB in the PPO and Aadhaar matches. Biometric verification will register the DLC. (If the pensioner is no longer alive, a death report will be sent to the EPFO.)
How to avail the service?
EPS pensioners can request a home visit by calling the IPPB customer care number 033-22029000. Other channels, such as the nearest post office or the app, can also be used.
Conditions for successful submission: Operator should be from IPPB.
DLC due or due within 30 days.
Approval is received from EPFO after digital verification (automatic or manual).
This initiative promotes “Digital India” and “Ease of Living,” especially for rural and elderly pensioners. Pension payments will continue uninterrupted.
