Nyay Setu App: The Indian government has kicked off the new year with a digital initiative that could significantly ease everyday legal issues for ordinary citizens. On January 1, 2026, the Ministry of Law and Justice launched the Nyay Setu chatbot. Its purpose is to provide citizens with access to basic legal information from the comfort of their homes, on their mobile phones, and completely free of charge.
People often struggle to seek proper advice, even in minor legal matters, due to fear, confusion, or expense. This platform was created to fill this gap. Whether it’s a property dispute, a question related to domestic violence, or understanding the divorce process, Nyay Setu will help guide people in the right direction. Learn how to download it.

How to download Nyay Setu on mobile?
There’s no need to conduct a lengthy search on an app store to find legal help. Nyay Setu can be accessed directly through WhatsApp. Citizens can start by sending “Hi” or any other message to the number 7217711814 saved on their mobile phone. The chatbot will then complete the identity verification process and ask a few basic questions.
Once verification is complete, the user is instantly connected to the platform. You can then select your problem, whether it’s a civil matter, a criminal case, a family dispute, or a corporate law question. The entire conversation is conducted in simple language, so even complex legal matters can be understood by the average person. This service is available 24/7 and requires no office visits or fees.

How will Nyay Setu work ?
Nyay Setu aims to provide people with accurate information about their rights and options before going to court. The platform doesn’t directly provide legal decisions. Instead, it understands your problem and explains the relevant laws, procedures, and next steps. In more serious cases, it can connect you to government legal networks like Tele-Law, Nyay Bandhu, and the Legal Services Authority.
This makes it easier to access panel lawyers or legal institutions if needed. The government has clarified that this chatbot will provide initial guidance in cases such as domestic violence, divorce, maintenance, custody, and property disputes. The advantage is that people will be able to gather complete information without pressure and then decide their next steps.
