Will Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli play in T20 World Cup?
Team India’s fast bowling coach Morne Morkel has made a major statement, putting an end to the ongoing speculation about the future of veteran batsmen Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. Morkel believes that both these veteran batsmen are fully capable of playing in the 2027 ODI World Cup, provided they maintain their fitness and performance. When asked about Kohli and Rohit’s return to the 2027 World Cup, Morkel said that experience is always invaluable.
Morne Morkel said, “I always say that experience can’t be found anywhere else. They’ve won trophies and played major tournaments. If they’re mentally and physically prepared, the 2027 World Cup isn’t far off.” He also said that it’s encouraging to see experienced players like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli return to the team. Regarding playing K.L. Rahul and Rishabh Pant together, he said, “My only department is bowling. Selection is the responsibility of the captain and selectors.”
He said, “I have played many matches against them. I have had to spend sleepless nights bowling against them. So, as a bowler, I know what it takes to prepare to play against them.” Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have retired from T20 and Test cricket and now represent India in only one format, ODIs, and are part of the team in the upcoming three-match ODI series against South Africa.
India suffered a humiliating 0-2 defeat after losing two Tests in Kolkata and Guwahati and will now play the same opponents in a three-match ODI series. Ahead of the series opener on Sunday, Morkel admitted that the rapid transition from Test cricket to white-ball cricket is mentally challenging but the team is ready for it.
