Aadhaar Document New Rules – UIDAI Updates List of Valid Documents, Check What Works and What Doesn’t

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has updated the list of documents required for Aadhaar enrolment and updates. The new list applies to children, adults, and senior citizens of all ages. Here’s what you need to submit as proof of identity, address, relationship, or date of birth.

Accepted Documents for Adults (18+)

Proof of Identity (POI – Name + Photo)

  • Indian Passport
  • Ration Card / PDS Photo Card / e-Ration Card
  • Voter ID / e-Voter ID
  • Driving License
  • Government / State / PSU / Regulatory Authority Service Photo ID
  • Pensioner Photo ID / Freedom Fighter ID / Pension Payment Order
  • CGHS / ECHS / ESIC / Mediclaim Card
  • Shelter or District Officer Certificate (RPWD Act)
  • MGNREGA Job Card
  • Birth Certificate (SC/ST/OBC)
  • Certificate / Marksheet from a recognized Board / University
  • Transgender / Third Gender Identity Certificate (2019 Act)
  • Certificate issued by MP / MLA / MLC / Gazetted Officer / Tehsildar (UIDAI Format)
  • Prisoner Entry / Release Documents

Proof of Address (POA – Name + Address)

  1. Indian Passport
  2. Ration Card / PDS / e-Ration Card
  3. Voter ID
  4. 4 Government / PSU Service IDs with Address
  5. Pensioner ID / Pension Payment Order
  6. MGNREGA Job Card
  7. Birth Certificate (SC/ST/OBC)
  8. Electricity Bill (not older than 3 months)
  9. Water Bill (not older than 3 months)
  10. Landline Bill / Postpaid Mobile Bill / Broadband Bill (not older than 3 months)
  11. Gas Bill (not older than 3 months)
  12. Government Allotment Letter (valid for 1 year)
  13. Property Tax Receipt (valid for 1 year)
  14. Registered Sale Deed / Gift Deed / Lease Agreement
  15. Bank Passbook / Bank Statement (signed and stamped)
  16. Insurance Policy (valid for 1 year from issue)
  17. FRRO / FRO Residence Permit (for foreigners)

Proof of Date of Birth (POB)

  1. You can submit any of the following documents as proof of date of birth:
  2. Birth Certificate (Registration Act, 1969)
  3. Indian Passport
  4. Certificate or Marksheet from a recognized Board / University mentioning date of birth
  5. Pension Order with date of birth
  6. Certificate issued by Gazetted Officer or Tehsildar (if date of birth is mentioned)

Proof of Relationship (POR) for HOF-Based Enrolment

Submit one of the following documents to prove family relationship:

  • Birth Certificate
  • Birth Certificate with names of parents
  • Family Connection document
  • MGNREGA Job Card
  • Family Relationship Certificate issued by Government
  • Court Order in case of legal guardian
  • Documents for Children
  • Children below 5 years:
  • Birth Certificate

HOF-based Enrolment Document (POR)

  • Children aged 5–18 years:
  • Any POI document from the adult list
  • Any POA document from the adult list
  • Any POB document
  • HOF-based Enrolment Document with POR
