Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana: Government is Giving Rs 11,000 on Becoming a Mother, Know How to Get Benefit

Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana is a major social welfare scheme of the Government of India, administered by the Ministry of Women and Child Development. Its objective is to provide financial support to pregnant and lactating women during pregnancy and childbirth, so that they can receive adequate nutrition, rest, and health checkups.

This scheme was created specifically for first-time mothers, but now it also includes women whose second child is a daughter. The scheme focuses on improving maternal health as well as better nutrition and care for newborns.

Financial Assistance Under the Scheme

Under the Matru Vandana Yojana, the government provides financial assistance of up to ₹11,000. ₹5,000 is given in three installments for the first child, while an additional ₹6,000 is given for the second child if it is a girl. This amount is transferred directly to the woman’s bank account through DBT. Women can use this assistance for expenses such as nutritious food, rest, and medical checkups, which improve the health of both mother and child.

Application Process and Required Documents

To apply for the scheme, eligible women must be at least 19 years of age. Applications can be made online at pmmvy.wcd.gov.in. Women must submit certain required documents, including an identity card, a bank passbook, a ration card, and a pregnancy-related medical report. Applications must be made within 270 days of the child’s birth.

This scheme is open to every eligible woman in the country, whether she is a General, Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe, disabled, or a beneficiary of the Ayushman Bharat Scheme.
