Like the central government, state governments are also felicitating there players who just won the Women’s World Cup for the first time in the history of Indian women’s cricket. In honour to that achivement, India can get a new cricket stadium.

The Bengal government has decided to honor Richa Ghosh, the female cricketer who played a key role in India’s recent World Cup victory, in a special way. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has announced plans to build a cricket stadium in Richa’s name.

India defeated South Africa to win the Women’s ODI World Cup for the first time. This was the team’s third attempt at the title. Previously, India had reached the final in 2005 and 2017, but lost both times. India succeeded in the third attempt, with Harmanpreet Kaur becoming the winning captain.

A stadium will be built in this beautiful city

The Bengal government honored Richa, and the Chief Minister announced that a cricket stadium would be named after her in Darjeeling, a city renowned for its beauty. The Chief Minister said the government wants future generations to remember Richa’s contributions.

Mamata Banerjee said, “Richa has become a world champion at just 22 years old. On behalf of West Bengal, we want to honour her, but I want to do more than that. There is 27 acres of land in Darjeeling and I have asked the mayor to prepare a plan to build a cricket stadium there. It will be known as Richa Cricket Stadium so that people can remember her name and future generations can take inspiration from it.”

Richa gets a warm welcome

Richa, known for her explosive batting, hails from Siliguri. Upon returning home after winning the World Cup, she received a grand welcome. The Bengal government and the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) honored her, with the Chief Minister and CAB President Sourav Ganguly also present.
