India’s explosive opener Vaibhav Suryavanshi is known for playing big and stormy innings. At just 17 years old, this player did something that had never happened before in the history of cricket. The whole world is astonished to know about the new world record he has created. This player’s name is Viran Chamuditha, who is the opener of Sri Lanka’s Under 19 team.

A 17-year-old batter made history in the international cricket

Viran Chamuditha has set a new world record for the longest innings played in the ICC Men’s U19 Cricket World Cup. Veeran made history by scoring 192 runs against Japan on January 17th. No player before him had reached the 192-run mark in World Cup history.

Veeran’s bat hit 26 fours and 1 six, totaling 27 boundaries. The batsman batted for nearly 40 overs and played a key role in helping his team surpass 350. Sri Lanka’s young batsman Viran Chamuditha has made history. He has become the highest run-scorer in a single innings in U19 World Cup history. He scored 192 runs off 143 balls, hitting 26 fours and one six. He fell just eight runs short of a double century.

While he didn’t reach a double century, he still broke the record held by fellow countryman Hasitha Boyagoda, who set the world record with his 191-run innings against Kenya in 2018. Left-handed batsman Veeran Chamuditha not only set a world record with his 192-run innings, but also created history in partnership. He and Dimantha Mahavitana added 328 runs, setting a world record for the highest partnership for any wicket in Under-19 World Cup history.

Dimantha Mahavitana scored 115 runs off 125 balls, including 11 fours. Riding on the brilliant batting of these two batsmen, Sri Lanka posted 387 for 4 in 50 overs. Chasing this target, Japan managed only 184 for 8 in 50 overs, losing the match by 203 runs.
