Abhishek Sharma is one of the rising stars of Indian cricket. This young left-handed batsman is impressing everyone with his aggressive approach. He scores quickly from the start and displays consistent aggression while at the crease. However, in the recently concluded India-Australia T20 series, Australia developed a strategy against Abhishek, which helped them contain him to some extent. Indian cricket fans truly enjoyed the fearless batting approach of the young opener. He did well against some of top blowing names in current cricket as well. But, former Indian international has different opinion.
Irfan Pathan warned Abhishek Sharma
Abhishek typically plays a shot with his first ball, stepping forward to put pressure on the bowler. However, the Australian bowlers have found a way to counter this tactic. Former Indian all-rounder Irfan Pathan has warned Abhishek about his recognizable batting pattern.
Pathan said, “Abhishek plays fearless cricket, which is great. But these are mostly bilateral series, not World Cups. Teams come to global tournaments well prepared. If he tries to play shots on every ball, teams will strategize around that. So Abhishek will have to play selectively.” He further said that the team management and their coach Yuvraj Singh must be paying attention to this. I will talk to Yuvi about it. Abhishek himself must realize that not every bowler can be played forward on the first ball.
In fact, in the fifth T20I in Brisbane, which was abandoned due to rain, Abhishek scored 23* off 13 balls. However, he was given two reprieves when Australia dropped easy catches. Pathan said that while Abhishek should continue his aggressive play, he should also have a strategic approach.
Pathan said they should continue playing high-risk cricket, but this fearlessness must be justified. Planning is essential in the game. Abhishek Sharma was named Player of the Series for his outstanding performance in the series, scoring 163 runs.
