Haris Rauf Banned: The Asia Cup 2025 title was claimed by Team India with a victory over Pakistan by four wickets in the final. India and Pakistan faced off three times in the tournament and Team India came out on top all three times.

It should be mentioned that in every match that India and Pakistan played in the Asia Cup 2025, some sort of controversy arose. Now, the ICC has finally made its decision on the matter. The ICC imposed a penalty on the Pakistan pace bowler Haris Rauf for his conduct during the matches on September 14 and September 28.

Controversy in India vs Pakistan Matches

It is worth noting that India and Pakistan faced each other three times in the Asia Cup 2025. In all three matches, there were allegations of controversial behaviour from players of both sides. During one match, Haris Rauf made gestures showing that a plane was shot down mid-flight. He also showed six fingers, referring to Pakistan’s claim of destroying six Indian fighter jets during Operation Sindoor. However, the Indian Army denied this claim.

India filed a complaint with the ICC about Rauf’s actions. The ICC deducted 30 percent of his match fee in both matches and gave him two demerit points each time. Since Rauf received four demerit points within two years, he has been banned for two matches under ICC rules.

Other Players Also Penalised

Pakistan’s Sahibzada Farhan was involved in controversy after doing a ‘gun celebration’ during the Super Four match. He said that this is a common way of celebration in the Pakhtun community during festivals and weddings. He also compared it to the celebrations of Virat Kohli and Mahendra Singh Dhoni. The ICC gave him an official warning and one demerit point.

Among Indian players, captain Suryakumar Yadav was found guilty of bringing politics into the game. He was fined 30 percent of his match fee and given two demerit points.

Jasprit Bumrah celebrated in the final by mimicking a plane landing after dismissing Haris Rauf. He was found guilty and given a warning along with one demerit point. Arshdeep Singh, who made the opposite gesture to Rauf’s celebration, was found not guilty.
